Dr. Thomas Oxland is a Professor of Orthopaedics and Mechanical Engineering at UBC. He is a biomedical engineer with research expertise in orthopaedic biomechanics. His specific areas of focus include the biomechanical aspects of the spine and spinal injury as well as orthopaedic implants. He served UBC Ortho as the Director of Orthopaedic Engineering Research from 1997 through 2009 and then the Associate Head – Research from 2009 until 2022.  He has also served as the Acting Director and as an Associate Director in the ICORD Research Centre.  He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Society of Canada.
